Here at the Swan Practice we our proud of our wider clinical team that support the GPs by providing a high-quality service to our patients.
Appointments can be made with the team for help and advice with any of the following (just ask our care navigators):
Shelley WagstaffQN RNNurse Manager and Nurse Practitioner
Helen McMorranRNNurse Practitioner and Prescriber
Ashley MorisseyRNNurse Practitioner
Minor illness practitioners specialise in treating our patient’s urgent and short term minor illness so that our doctors can concentrate on the more complex and specialist needs.
Our collection of MIPs is a group of very experienced nurses and paramedics with a broad range of skills which include treating all short term minor illnesses in children and adults such as; upper and lower respiratory infection or illnesses, skin and urinary infections, urgent ECGs and able to manage urgent and acute referrals, in many cases independently of the doctors. Some of the MIPs are able to independently prescribe where necessary, however often many minor illnesses do not require prescriptions and the team will sign post to self-care and give advice on over-the-counter treatments.
All acute and urgent home visits are now undertaken by the minor illness practitioners who have access to a dedicated GP to discuss and review any concerns. This means the doctors are able to concentrate on the planned and complex care visits for our most vulnerable patients.

The practice management team is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.

The Swan Practice is proud to be an accredited training practice, involved in training qualified doctors, known as registrar doctors to complete the final stages of training before they enter General Practice. We have up to 3 registrar doctors at any one time, who stay with us between 6 months and 3 years and each is supervised by an experienced GP trainer.
On occasion, patients may be invited to give consent for the registrar doctor to video the consultation. This is an important learning tool to help the registrar doctor improve and develop their consultation skills. The recordings are deleted after being viewed by the GP trainer.
We have been a training practice since 2005 and have found that registrar doctors bring fresh ideas and enthusiasm and are valued by both the practice and the patients.
All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (eg average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.
The average pay for GPs working for six months or more at The Swan Practice, in the last financial year, was £64,149 before tax and National Insurance. This is for 4 full-time, 8 part-time and 1 locum GPs.
