Covid Booster and Flu Clinics

Updated:  29th September 2021

We will soon be contacting you by text message or phone call to invite eligible patients for their COVID boosters. We will offer flu vaccines at the same time to those who have not already had one.

Eligible patients are:

* All patient aged 50 and over

* All those living in residential care homes for older adults

* All front-line health & social care workers

* All patients aged 16-49 with underlying health conditions that put them at higher risk of severe COVID-19, and adult carers

* Adult household contacts of immunosuppressed individuals

We will be calculating 6 months from your 2nd dose and inviting you to book into the next clinic.  Please do not try to book into clinic before 6 months post 2nd dose.  You will be turned away.

There is a small cohort of immunocompromised patients who will need a 3rd dose:

This includes those who had or have:

  • blood cancers (such as leukaemia or lymphoma)
  • lowered immunity due to treatment (such as steroid medication, biological therapy, chemotherapy or radiotherapy)
  • lowered immunity due to inherited disorders of the immune system
  • an organ or bone marrow transplant
  • diseases that affect the immune system such as poorly controlled HIV
  • other diseases or treatments as advised by your specialist

Consultants will be informing us of these patients and they will get booked into the booster clinics. If you believe you fall into the category of immunocompromised  patients, as listed above, please email admin.theswanpractice@nhs.net.

As previously mentioned the booster vaccine will be Pfizer.  There are now only a very small number of patients who are unable to have this vaccine.  We will make alternative arrangements for these patients.

Children’s Flu Vaccine Clinics

Updated:  6th September 2021

We are happy to be able to start booking the children’s flu vaccine clinics, as we have now received stock of the nasal vaccine.

We can take bookings for these clinics for children aged 2 and 3 and so if your child was born on or between 1st September 2017 and 31st August 2019 – we can offer a nasal flu vaccine.

Additionally please book an appointment if your child falls into one of the at risk groups as detailed in the article via the web link below aged up to 17 at the time of vaccination.  This is for children who are under 18 (not 18) and in an at-risk group only.

Our clinics will be running from this Saturday and on most weekday mornings – please ring for an appointment and you will be advised which site to attend.   These will be given in The Swan surgery premises not at the community centre.

As you will be aware the adult flu vaccine stocks are delayed and we do not as yet have a date for these clinics, we are also still awaiting guidance on COVID Boosters.

Updated:  3rd September 2021

We are aware of the recent media messages around a booster programme for COVID vaccines. The link below gives more information on the relevant cohorts, HOWEVER, we have not as yet received full guidance and we are still planning for delivery of this programme when more information is available. This is likely to be October onwards. Please be assured we will communicate with you and invite patients appropriately when the time comes.

We feel we are well practised and ready to mobilise at short notice, when the vaccine and guidance lands!

If you believe your child is in the cohort as described please check the guidance and if you need to email us on admin.theswanpractice@nhs.net for more information.

The numbers for the 12-15 year old cohort are very small across Bucks and so there are only a few clinics running – details are below..

You will need the NHS number and Date of Birth and the reason the child is eligible.

Please email admin.theswanpractice@nhs.net and we can send you a text / letter with this information.

COVID Vaccines for young people age 16-17

JCVI has updated it’s guidance and now recommends that young people age 16-17 should be offered 1 dose of COVID vaccination. The letters have been posted centrally and detail how to book the vaccine.

COVID Booster Programme & Season Influenza

We plan to provide the COVID Booster and the influenza vaccines together this autumn.  There is still uncertainty around

  • Type of vaccine that is being recommended
  • Eligible cohorts – we think they will be similar to the flu cohorts
  • Delivery dates for both vaccines - we expect this to be late September
  • Co-administration - can they be given together – awaiting JCVI decision

We will aim to work collaboratively with Jardines Pharmacy and we are discussing models of delivery with them, sharing workforce and making the clinics efficient for our population, whilst still sustaining a GP service over what is expected to be a pressured winter.

There will be more information and invitations sent out soon – please do not call us regarding this – we will not be able to book until we have more information.

AstraZeneca Vaccinations

8th July 2021

The Government has confirmed that no Covishield vaccines have been administered in the UK and that all AstraZeneca vaccines given in the UK appear on the NHS COVID Pass as Vaxzevria. The NHS COVID Pass is the digital version of individuals’ proof of COVID-19 vaccine status, which has been available for international travel since May. The European Medicines Agency has authorised this vaccine and the Government is confident that travel will not be affected. The EU Digital Covid-19 Certificate is currently for EU citizens only, or third country nationals legally staying or resident in the EU.

Covid-19 Passport

For any enquiries about COVID vaccination certification, we are unable to issue these at the practice.

Please see https://www.gov.uk/guidance/demonstrating-your-covid-19-vaccination-status-when-travelling-abroad for further information.

Proof of your vaccination status will be available on the NHSapp, which is also valuable for accessing your health records and ordering repeat prescriptions. Alternatively if you already have Patient Access this information is available there too.

The NHSapp can be downloaded from;

https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/nhs-app/id1388411277 for iPhone or https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nhs.online.nhsonline for android

Alternatively you can call the NHS helpline on 119 and ask for a letter to be posted to you. This must be at least 5 days after you’ve completed your course of the vaccine; the letter may take up to 5 days to reach you.

If you have had a vaccine outside of England (including; Wales, Scotland or Ireland) your vaccines will not currently appear on the NHS App Covid passport as they do not transfer to NIMS (the National Immunisation Management System). In this instance, please supply us with the details of your vaccinations so we can update your records here with us. We will then be able to provide you with a letter confirming your vaccination status for the purpose of travel if needed.
